High School Retreat was a success!
The students in grades 9-12 attended the annual, off-campus retreat on Thursday after school and all-day Friday. Organized by SLO's Activities Department, students went to Minnesota Harvest apple orchard, stayed overnight in a hotel, participated in a social responsibility effort to stencil storm drains in St. Paul, and did teambuilding at the Escape Games at the Mall of America. A fund time was had by all and friendships grew stronger while being together!
THROUGH THE DECADES - ISM's 40th Anniversary Celebration - Saturday, November 1 - Silent Auction Classroom Baskets benefit SLO!
As we prepare for the upcoming 40th Anniversary celebration, SLO is organizing the silent auction part of this event. Each grade level (some combined) will be asked to donate items to put in a silent auction basket for this event and all proceeds raised from the bidding of these classroom baskets will come back in to SLO to help with funding for things such as: activity nights for lower school, middle school, and high school, supplies and activities needed for final exam relief, SLO Day of Service supplies and efforts, the cost of Prom for high school students, Huskies & Pups events and supplies, and more. The variety of classroom baskets is sure to please everyone in the crowd. Sign-ups for Preschool-Grade 5 will be located in the front lobby to sign up for your contributions. Grades 6-12 classroom baskets will be in the SLO office. Please see the classroom basket donation lists HERE. Donation drop-off boxes will be located in the front office starting on Monday. Please label each item with the classroom basket title upon dropping off. The classroom basket donation deadline is Thursday, October 16 at noon (the end of Parent Teacher Conferences. Thank you!
Lower School (LS) SLO Period - What is it and what is its purpose?
What is SLO Period? ISM's Student Life Organization is a primary pillar of our organization through student engagement in our school community and beyond. High School students hold leadership roles and lead nine different departments that plan and implement initiatives for our entire school community. These departments are: Management, Discipline, Sports, Lower School, Activities, Outreach, Wellness, Academics, and Social Responsibility. Each day, students in grades 1-12 have 30 minutes to engage in different activities, clubs, and event preparation for present and upcoming activities on the engagement calendar.
Tell me more about LS SLO Period: LS SLO period happens each day from 12:40-1:10pm. It is intended to grow young leaders through different engaging activities they can one day be part of SLO's greater initiatives. The administration has organized a schedule for students to rotate their time in SLO. In term 1, the grades 3-5 are grouped together and grades 1-2 are grouped together. Each group comes every other week and engages in activities surrounding a theme. Our aim is to get the students outside each day during LS SLO to engage in games building on the week's theme. Themes so far in Term 1 have been: Teamwork, Respect/Responsibility/Empathy, and Creativity. Students have learned deeper meanings to these themes through relay races, circle games, high-fives through sportsmanship, by being kind to one another and what that looks like, and more importantly, to have fun! Overall, students are learning about these concepts through play, movement, and art activities.
Certificates of Completion: At the end of each session, students receive a certificate of completion of the theme because they learned to understand each week's theme deeper than just the activity itself. Additionally, these themes reflect the value and core of ou
SABIS Student Life Organization® (SLO®).
Where can I learn more about what is happening each week? A small summary of each week's theme will be in Husky Highlights each week under the SLO® page.
